NORTH FLORIDA, FL COURT FAQs
Answers to the most common questions about pickleball court construction, resurfacing, and maintenance in North Florida, FL.
We serve Jacksonville and the surrounding North Florida region — St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fleming Island, Orange Park, St. Johns, Fernandina Beach, Green Cove Springs, Gainesville, Ocala, Palatka, and Middleburg. Our team is based in the Jacksonville area and travels throughout the region.
In North Florida, a complete pickleball court with concrete base and acrylic surface typically runs $25,000–$55,000. Resurfacing starts around $5,500 for a single court in good structural condition. We provide free, detailed project bids after a site walkthrough — so you know exactly what you're paying for before signing anything.
Most North Florida projects complete in 5–8 business days from first pour to final line paint. Florida's climate is generally favorable for construction — we don't lose time to frozen ground — but we do plan around afternoon thunderstorms during rainy season and schedule concrete pours in morning windows.
Roger and Donna Kaman own and operate Pickled Court North Florida out of the Jacksonville area. They're pickleball enthusiasts who know the local market, the players, and the communities they serve. Roger and Donna are directly involved in every project — not a distant franchise managing subcontractors.
Florida's year-round outdoor lifestyle puts courts through more annual cycles of play, UV exposure, and weather than almost any other market. We understand how to spec and install a surface that holds up in that environment. And because Roger and Donna are local, you'll get responsive communication and follow-through after the project is done.
Florida's heat accelerates UV degradation of acrylic surfaces, and the high humidity creates conditions where algae and organic growth can establish quickly — especially under tree canopy or near coastal air. We spec surfaces with UV-resistant pigments and can apply anti-microbial treatments during installation. Choosing the right product for the Florida climate is something we take seriously.
Absolutely — retirement and active adult communities are one of our most common project types in North Florida. Pickleball is by far the fastest-growing sport in the 55+ demographic, and communities like those in St. Johns County and along the St. Johns River corridor are investing heavily in court amenities. We understand the standards, aesthetics, and HOA approval processes these communities require.
Yes. Coastal environments — Ponte Vedra, Fernandina Beach, Fleming Island — bring salt air and near-constant humidity. We select surface systems and hardware (net posts, anchors) appropriate for coastal exposure. Stainless steel anchor hardware and corrosion-resistant coatings are standard for coastal projects.
Florida's rainy season (roughly June through September) brings daily afternoon storms that can interrupt exterior work. We schedule concrete pours and surface applications in morning windows and have contingency days built into every project timeline. We'll communicate early if weather pushes the schedule.
In Florida, UV fading is often the first visible sign — colors wash out faster here than in northern climates. You may also notice the surface feels rougher underfoot, lines have become hard to distinguish, or green algae is growing in shaded areas. Courts that are 6–8 years old and haven't been maintained regularly are prime resurfacing candidates.
For the most part, yes. Florida's mild winters are ideal for resurfacing — cool temperatures and low humidity make for excellent acrylic application conditions. The main window we avoid is heavy rainy season days. A resurfacing project can often be completed in November through May with very predictable scheduling.
We start with a surface and base assessment to identify any structural cracks or drainage issues. We repair cracks, clean and profile the existing surface, apply a base filler coat if needed, and then apply the new acrylic system in your chosen colors. Lines are the final step. Most single-court resurfacing projects in North Florida complete in 2–3 days.
Regular sweeping and occasional rinsing removes the organic matter algae needs to establish. For courts under tree canopy or in humid shaded areas, we can apply an algae-inhibiting surface treatment during maintenance visits. Keeping perimeter vegetation trimmed back also reduces spore load on the surface.
We recommend a professional inspection in October or November — before the heaviest play season and while conditions are ideal for surface repairs. During the inspection we check for UV wear, algae, drainage, line fading, and hardware condition. Monthly sweeping and a quarterly rinse with a garden hose handles the in-between care.
Yes. Our annual maintenance plans cover a professional inspection, surface cleaning, algae treatment, crack assessment, and a written condition report. For HOA and community courts with heavy use, we offer bi-annual visits. It's the most cost-effective way to extend the life of your investment in Florida's climate.
Lighter court colors reflect more heat and can be more comfortable underfoot on hot Florida days, while darker colors absorb more heat but are popular for their aesthetics. We offer a full range of USAPA-approved colors and can show you samples in Florida light conditions. Popular North Florida choices include cool blues, greens, and slate tones that complement outdoor landscaping.
Absolutely. Custom branded courts — with logos, brand color systems, and unique design elements — are popular with fitness clubs, resorts, and private clubs throughout the Jacksonville area and the First Coast. We apply all graphics in the same durable acrylic system as the court surface so they hold up under heavy year-round use.
Most North Florida HOA architectural review committees ask for a site plan showing court dimensions and placement, surface and color specifications, a drainage plan, and sometimes noise data comparing pickleball to other recreational activities. We've prepared these packages for communities throughout St. Johns County, Duval County, and the surrounding area. We'll help you assemble what's needed.
North Florida courts see more annual play hours than almost any region in the country because the climate supports 12-month outdoor use. We factor that into our material and installation recommendations for community projects. Commercial-grade surface systems and a proper maintenance plan keep high-traffic HOA courts in excellent condition for 8–12 years.
Yes. Multi-court installations are something we handle regularly — two, four, or more courts built in sequence on a shared timeline. We'll stage the work to minimize disruption to the community and can coordinate with your HOA management company on access, communication, and scheduling.
Yes. Tennis-to-pickleball conversions are one of our most frequent requests in North Florida. We fit two pickleball courts within a standard tennis court footprint using contrasting line colors so both sports can coexist on the same surface. We follow USAPA layout standards precisely.
In direct Florida sun, line paint faces more UV stress than in northern markets. Quality 100% acrylic line paint — which is what we use — typically holds color and adhesion for 4–6 years before touching up is warranted. Shaded courts last longer. We use the same UV-resistant acrylic pigments in our line paint as in our surface coatings.
